KCM Capacitor Module
Kollmorgen offers the KCM capacitor modules for use with their range of servo amplifiers, for dynamic storage of braking energy or the bridging of temporary power failures.
KCM-S
The KCM-S Energy Saving module captures energy from the motor during regenerative braking and releases the stored energy during the next acceleration cycle, so avoiding the need for braking resistors. This leads to higher energy efficiency, less heat in the control cabinet and lower peak current demand on the mains supply.
It is ideal for applications with repeated accel/ decel cycles with a cycle time between 1 and 10 seconds. It adjusts automatically to the chopper level of the drive, and the operating voltage level is determined by sensing at the terminals of the braking resistor so no setting of parameters is necessary. It also has integrated protection against overvoltage conditions.
KCM-P
The KCM-P Power Supply module charges in a controlled way during the normal operation of the drive to support the DC Link during short power outages. In this way tripping of the drive is avoided resulting in fewer production losses and no damage to the machine.
It is ideal for applications; where an uncontrolled stop would result in high costs due to production downtime or scrap; in regions where short power supply interruptions are common, and in replacement of expensive electromechanical storage systems (flywheels etc.). It charges slowly during drive operation so that there is no overload of the charging circuit, resulting in a stabilised DC link when the voltage drops below 470V.
KCM-E
The KCM-E Extension modules extend the capacity of the KCM-S or KCM-P modules they are used with and are available in two sizes.
